Part of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Saint Thomas, is easily one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. It is equipped with colorful quant homes, breathtaking turquoise water, and green rolling mountains. To end our paradise vacation we decided to visit Megan’s Bay; named one of National Geographic’s Top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world!
When we arrived at Megan’s Bay an entrance fee of $5 is asked (A little annoying considering we just paid for the taxi ride over). Casey and I got to Megan’s Bay around 9am because we heard that this beach gets insanely busy. Since it was overcast in the morning, we killed time by walking the beach, taking some pics, and relaxing.
Once the sun peeked through the clouds at about 11am, the whole bay lit up in vibrant colors! I can now see why it is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! The sun quickly began warming up the coast, which meant getting some drinks was the first thing on our to-do list. Luckily, the beach bar was only steps away from us. Once we pulled back the drinks, Casey and I were excited to get into that gorgeous ocean that had been taunting us.
We grabbed our snorkel gear and headed down the right side of the beach. We noticed that there was a sand bar along the edge of the coast that went half a mile out into the bay. The sand bar was only waist deep so while Casey snorkeled, I happily floated along beside him. I wish California had beaches like this!
To end on a funny note, I want to tell you all about a very stupid decision that I made that day. I decided to take my phone and hat with me down to the water instead of leaving it by our stuff (I bet you all know where this is going). I asked an older lady if she would watch my phone for me until I came back. When I came out of the water I had noticed clothes and towels were hanging from the tree that the lady was sitting by. I asked her what happened and she frantically exclaimed how a huge wave had taken my hat, her stuff, and MY PHONE out to sea!! Did I mention that my phone case isn’t water proof!?! Thankfully I was lucky… and I mean LUCKY… that while I was out in the water a man on the beach was pretty tech savvy. He was able to take apart my phone and dry the pieces to finally make it work. I’ll never make that stupid mistake again!
Even with that minor fiasco, Megan’s Bay was a perfect way to conclude our Caribbean dream vacation!
